Hello Dear friends and curious readers,
Today is the 7th annual World Collage Day and my plan was to host, or at least post, something collage specific today, as I’ve done every year since World Collage Day’s inception. But this year, the date happens to fall on the one year anniversary of my Friday Feature Artist interview with Clarissa Callesen for Fibre Arts Takes Two. Which, I will gladly admit, was a highlight for me, in what was otherwise a very difficult year.
Reading the description of the intent of World Collage Day, these two occasions—World Collage Day and the anniversary of my Friday Feature Artist interview—seem perfectly aligned:
“World Collage Day is about artists connecting across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation. And the day is about an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.”
Over my career as an artist, my work has been a sort of visual language. I see metaphors in the disparate elements I work with whether they be scraps of paper being glued into a collage composition or found objects making their way into one of my assemblages or paper sculptures. I seek to challenge the viewer to pause for a moment, to consider a different perspective, to go deeper into the meaning of the work.
And so in honor of World Collage Day, and knowing there are so many new subscribers here, I’m excited to share my Fibre Arts Take Two, Friday Feature Artist interview with you all today on the one year anniversary of the occasion. I rewatched the video yesterday and it struck me that my original perception of how I did, which I acknowledged last year1 was clouded by those pesky insecurities, seemed even more off now. Highlighting the difference a little time and perspective makes.
I hope you enjoy the interview.
With love and gratitude,
Crystal Marie
